WAEC fixes new date for commencement of 2023 WASSCE

At a pre-examination news conference held on Thursday in Lagos, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) made this announcement.

In his remarks, the head of the national office, Patrick Areghan, mentioned that a total of 1,621,853 students from 20,851 public and private schools enrolled for the test.

The new development occurs when the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) completes the 2023 administration of its tertiary institution admission exams.

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which is administered by JAMB for admission aspirants nationally, was originally slated to take place between April 25 and May 2, but was postponed for candidates who missed it for legitimate reasons until Saturday, May 6.

Examining bodies in Nigeria, such as the National Examination Council (NECO), JAMB, and WAEC, have consistently compared notes to adjust their calendars to prevent conflicts between events.

The majority of the time, the same candidates take the various exams, so according to the examination bodies, it is wise to protect their interests by avoiding schedule conflicts.
